20-Minute Low-Impact HIIT

Low-impact HIIT is a versatile workout format that can be genuinely challenging without the stress of high-impact jumping.

20 min · Kit: Timer (Tabata format: 40 sec on, 20 sec off)

The session

  1. 13 min warm-up: arm circles, marching, hip swings
  2. 2Circuit 1 (2 rounds): Low-impact jumping jack / Standing mountain climber / Squat to calf raise / Wide-stance fast step touch
  3. 31 min active rest: slow march
  4. 4Circuit 2 (2 rounds): Reverse lunge / Speed skater (no jump, slow glide) / Inchworm / Standing bicycle
  5. 51 min active rest
  6. 6Circuit 3 (2 rounds): Squat pulse / Hip hinge to stand / Overhead reach + side bend / March with high knees (slow)
  7. 73 min cool-down: slow breathing, full body stretches

Worth knowing

  • Low-impact does not mean low-intensity — speed and arm drive keep effort high
  • This format suits women who find jumping uncomfortable after childbirth, with joint concerns, or on days when high impact isn't appropriate
  • Form over speed — quality controlled movement burns more calories than fast sloppy movement
  • Rest completely if needed rather than using bad form
