15-Minute Hip & Glute Activation

Strong, activated glutes support the lower back, hips, and knees — this short routine is a genuine investment in structural comfort.

20 min · Kit: Resistance band (loop), Yoga mat

The session

  1. 12 min: Glute bridges with 2-sec hold at top — 15 reps
  2. 22 min: Banded clamshells — 15 each side
  3. 32 min: Banded kickbacks (on all fours) — 12 each side
  4. 42 min: Side-lying hip abduction — 15 each side, band optional
  5. 52 min: Single-leg glute bridge — 8 each side
  6. 62 min: Banded squat walks — 10 steps each direction
  7. 72 min: Fire hydrants — 12 each side
  8. 81 min: Hip flexor stretch each side

Worth knowing

  • Glute activation before heavier lower body work reduces knee and lower back strain
  • Most people underutilize their glutes — deliberate practice changes this
  • The single-leg bridge is harder than it looks; start without band
  • Activation work is particularly useful if you spend long periods sitting
