The pattern

Bloating that was not there before

Flat in the morning, uncomfortable by evening. The shape most women describe, and what tends to sit behind it.

What women describe

A stomach that is flat in the morning and visibly distended by the evening, often enough to change what they can wear.

Bloating that arrives with foods that never caused trouble before.

Discomfort that tracks loosely with a cycle that has itself become unpredictable.

What commonly sits behind it

Slower transit, so more is in the system for longer.

Changes in how the gut handles certain carbohydrates, which is why the same meal lands differently than it used to.

Fiber added quickly with good intentions, which reliably makes bloating worse before it makes it better.

Stress, eating fast, and eating late, all of which are ordinary and all of which show up here.

Please do not self-diagnose this one

Persistent bloating that does not come and go, especially with a change in bowel habit, unexplained weight loss, or pain, is a reason to see a doctor rather than to change your diet. It is worth being firm about that, because it is easily dismissed as ordinary.

The gut is one of the few places in this stage where small, ordinary changes to what you eat reliably show up within weeks.

General information, not medical advice. Narrated never diagnoses.
