Disappointing experience with 5-HTP. My light and unrefreshing sleep didn't improve and the side effects outweighed any benefit. Disappointing but at least I know now.

I really wanted 5-HTP to help with my waking at 3am unable to return to sleep but after 8 weeks I saw no meaningful improvement. it just wasn't effective for me. I've stopped taking it.

Tried
My online menopause community suggested 5-HTP for my insomnia and night waking. It took about 2 weeks to notice anything, but by week 12 the symptoms were about 70% better. Would definitely continue.

Tried
I tried 5-HTP hoping it would improve serotonin and sleep quality. The nausea was significant and the nightmares it caused were vivid and disturbing enough that I wasn't sleeping restfully even when I did sleep. I stopped after six weeks and wouldn't recommend it for sleep in the context of perimenopause.
