20-Minute Seated Chair Workout
Starting where you are — even in a chair — is always the right choice; consistency at a gentle level builds the foundation for more.
20 min · Kit: Sturdy chair without wheels
The session
- 12 min: Seated marching — lift knees alternately, arms swinging
- 23 min: Seated leg extensions — straighten each leg, hold 2 sec; 15 each side × 2
- 33 min: Seated arm press (no weight) — push arms overhead 15 reps × 2
- 43 min: Seated side bends — arm overhead, lean to one side; 10 each side × 2
- 53 min: Chair-assisted squat — use hands briefly on seat to assist; 3×10
- 63 min: Seated core hold — sit tall, feet off floor slightly, breathe; 20 sec × 3
- 73 min: Seated calf raises + ankle circles
Worth knowing
- Seated exercise can be genuinely demanding — chairs are versatile tools, not limitations
- Sit toward the front of the chair seat for most exercises — avoids back-supported passive sitting
- A chair workout can be scaled by adding light weights (canned goods work)
- This is an excellent entry point for women who have had a long break from exercise
