30-Minute Yin Yoga Hip Opening
A regular yin practice works into the deeper connective tissues that dynamic stretching rarely reaches — many women find it profoundly restorative.
30 min · Kit: Yoga mat, Optional: bolster, blocks, blanket
The session
- 15 min: Butterfly — soles of feet together, fold forward; passive hold
- 25 min: Dragon (low lunge) — each side 2.5 min; let gravity do the work
- 35 min: Sleeping swan (pigeon) — each side 2.5 min; forehead to floor or supported
- 45 min: Saddle — kneel and gently recline back; supported version: knees apart slightly
- 55 min: Supine twist — each side; fully supported and released
- 65 min: Savasana
Worth knowing
- Yin yoga holds are 2–5 minutes — the first minute is comfortable, the second is where things open
- Support every position with props — this is not resisting the pose but allowing it
- Sensations in yin are often unusual — distinguish between a good stretch sensation and joint pain; joint pain means come out
- Yin yoga is connective tissue work (fascia, ligaments, tendons) not muscle work — different from dynamic stretching
