The lower dose of estradiol helped partially with the mood symptoms but I still felt more low and anxious than I had before perimenopause. My specialist has since increased the dose and I'm hoping for a more complete response. In my experience getting the dose right is important.
The combination of oestradiol and testosterone resolved the flat, anhedonic mood that oestrogen alone hadn't fully addressed. The drive, motivation and emotional warmth I'd lost over several years returned completely by month three. I wish I hadn't spent so long on antidepressants when hormones were the answer.
The depression and rage that came with perimenopause were destroying my relationships. I was put on antidepressants first but they made little difference. When HRT was finally prescribed the mood improvement was profound — within two months the black moods lifted and I felt like a calm, rational person again.
Started on the lowest dose of HRT and seeing gradual improvement. The hot flashes haven't stopped but they're less intense and less frequent by week eight — from about eight a day to four. My GP has suggested we may increase the dose at the next review if I'm still not achieving full control.
The hot flashes had become completely debilitating — I was having 15-20 a day and soaking through clothes constantly. Starting estradiol gel was life-changing. By week four they'd reduced to 4-5 per day and by week eight they were occasional and mild. I can't recommend transdermal HRT enough for vasomotor symptoms.
The combination of oestradiol and testosterone together resolved my cognitive symptoms completely. I'd been unable to concentrate, losing words mid-sentence, and feeling foggy all day for eighteen months. By month three I was functioning at my best. The full hormone replacement approach was what I needed.
I started on the lower dose of estradiol and after eight weeks the brain fog had only partially lifted. I was expecting more based on others' accounts. My specialist has since suggested increasing the dose and I'm hopeful that will make more of a difference.
The brain fog was the symptom that most frightened me — I couldn't find words mid-sentence, forgot basic things, and felt cognitively impaired for the first time in my life. Starting HRT was the solution. By week eight I could think clearly again and by week twelve my memory was essentially back to normal.
The Mirena coil plus estradiol gel eliminated the night sweats that had been disrupting my sleep for two years. By month two I was sleeping seven hours straight on most nights for the first time since early perimenopause. The difference in daytime functioning has been profound.
The night sweats were wrecking my sleep — I'd wake soaking two or three times a night. Starting HRT resolved the night sweats within six weeks and my sleep quality transformed. Utrogestan also has a known sedative effect which helped me get off to sleep more easily. Three months in and I feel rested for the first time in years.
The full trio of oestradiol, testosterone and progesterone has been transformative. I feel better at 55 than I did at 45. The hot flashes, brain fog, fatigue and low mood are all essentially gone. It took some tweaking to get the doses right but my menopause specialist was excellent throughout.
I already had a Mirena fitted for heavy periods so my specialist used it as the progestogen component of my HRT. Adding the estradiol gel was straightforward. After some initial spotting as my uterus settled, the combination completely resolved my hot flashes and sleep issues within three months.
After two years of suffering through menopause with no support, I found a private menopause specialist who prescribed body-identical HRT. Within a month the constant hot flashes had reduced by about 80%. By month four I was off antidepressants, sleeping well and exercising again. I wish every woman had access to this care.
The oestrogen alone was helping but adding testosterone was the final piece. Within eight weeks on the combined protocol I was exercising again, my concentration returned, and I got my libido back after years of it being absent. I genuinely feel better at 51 than I did in my mid-40s.
I started on the lower dose of estradiol gel but wasn't getting the relief I hoped for after two months. My specialist has since increased my dose and things are slowly improving. In my experience the starting dose doesn't always work — it's worth going back and asking for an increase if you're not seeing results.
After years of dismissal from various GPs I finally saw a menopause specialist who prescribed body-identical HRT. The transformation has been genuinely life-changing. Hot flashes stopped within six weeks, the depression lifted, and my joints stopped aching. The vivid dreams from the progesterone are unusual but not unpleasant.
Using the Mirena as progestogen alongside estradiol gel was a game-changer. The coil insertion was uncomfortable for a day or two but after that the combination worked brilliantly. Hot flashes, night sweats and the crushing fatigue all resolved within two months. I wish I'd started sooner.
Started estradiol gel after months of worsening hot flashes and brain fog. By week 4 I noticed the hot flashes had reduced by about half. By week 8 my sleep was dramatically better and the brain fog was lifting. At 12 weeks I felt like myself again — the breast tenderness was mild and resolved after the first month.
