Wind down

A bad day isn't a verdict

When today goes badly, name it as one day, not a trend

How to do it

On a day that's gone properly wrong, say the sentence to yourself plainly: this is one bad day, not proof of anything. Then do the next small thing on your list, whatever it is.

What the evidence says

The strongest long term study on menopausal cognition found that money worry and blood pressure, not menopause itself, were the biggest drivers of memory and thinking trouble in midlife, and that getting older does not have to mean losing your abilities. A bad day reliably feels like evidence of decline when it is usually just a bad day, and treating it that way, rather than as a verdict, is what the research on thinking the worst backs.
