In the night

Turn the clock face away

Turn your bedside clock or phone screen away from the bed tonight

2 min

How to do it

Turn the clock, or your phone, so you can't see the time from bed. If you wake in the night, resist checking. You'll find out what time it is when you get up.

What the evidence says

Clock watching during night waking is specifically named in CBT for insomnia as something that increases distress and makes falling back asleep harder, because it turns a wake up into a countdown. This is one small, concrete piece of that approach, which The Menopause Society rate as the strongest evidence based option for broken sleep.
