The pattern
The afternoon crash, and what is usually under it
Fine until two, then flattened. The most common shape midlife tiredness takes, and the levers that reach it.

What tends to be happening
Blood sugar handling changes in these years. The same toast-and-coffee breakfast that carried you through a morning at 35 can leave a bigger dip behind it at 47.
A dip is not dangerous and it is not a diagnosis. It is a pattern, and patterns respond to fairly boring changes.
What women most often change
Protein at breakfast rather than only at dinner. This is the single change women describe as making the most obvious difference, and it is also the best supported.
Eating something before the crash rather than after it. Waiting until you are flattened means eating for rescue, which tends to mean eating sugar.
Moving the biggest coffee earlier. Caffeine has a long tail, and an afternoon cup that fixes three o'clock can cost you at eleven.
Ten minutes outside. Daylight and a short walk do more for a two-o'clock slump than most people expect, and cost nothing.
Where to find the food
The recipes in this section are filtered for steady energy and higher protein, and most of them are weeknight length.
Energy is the thing every other change in these years is paid for out of. Protecting it is what makes the rest possible.
