30-Minute Treadmill Interval Run/Walk

Run-walk intervals gently introduce impact loading to the body, which is mechanically beneficial for bone tissue while keeping session intensity manageable.

30 min · Kit: Treadmill, Running shoes

The session

  1. 15 min: Easy walk warm-up, slight incline (1%)
  2. 26 rounds of: 2 min brisk walk + 1 min jog (or run)
  3. 33 min: Easy recovery walk
  4. 4Final 4 min: incline walk at 5–8% for extra bone load
  5. 53 min: Cool-down walk, zero incline; calf and hip flexor stretch

Worth knowing

  • The run-walk method is not a beginner compromise — many experienced runners use it to manage effort
  • Impact from running loads bones in a way walking cannot fully replicate
  • Treadmill incline significantly increases the cardiovascular load without extra impact
  • If 1 min jog is too much, make it a very brisk walk — the aim is raised heart rate
