1 report from women who tried Mindfulness Meditation
I started a mindfulness programme specifically designed for chronic pain after being referred by my pain management clinic. It didn't reduce my actual endo symptoms but it changed how I relate to the pain — I catastrophise less and I cope better day to day. It's not a substitute for medical treatment but it's become an essential part of my toolkit.
Research context compiled from published sources
Regular mindfulness practice reduces amygdala reactivity (reducing stress response) and increases prefrontal cortex activity (improving emotion regulation). Reduces cortisol and adrenaline output via HPA axis modulation. Increases GABA and serotonin activity. Reduces perceived severity of hot flushes by altering the cognitive appraisal of bodily sensations rather than reducing their physiological frequency.
